Greenville, S.C. – Anna Roser scored a school record nine goals on Sunday to propel the Furman women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season, 19-15, over the Kennesaw State Owls at Paladin Stadium.
The win, also the first for interim head coach
Lauren Farber, improves Furman to 1-1 on the season and collects its program-best fifth consecutive win over the Owls. With the loss, Kennesaw State drops to 2-1 overall.
Roser, a junior from Easton, Md., also set two career highs for goals and points in a game (9) and surpassed the goal record of eight, previously set by Ashley Trice versus Stetson on May 4, 2017. Her nine points are tied for third-most in a game in program history.
Roser was one of six Paladins that scored in the contest with
Sophie Shaw contributing seven points on three goals and a career best four assists, and
Paige Harman added five points on two goals and three assists.
Sophia Buzelis won a career best eight draws and
Hannah Dintino, who had two goals and an assist, and
Lilly Dyer both caused two turnovers.
Andrea Fisher picked up a career high five ground balls and
Mia Falco added four and her first collegiate goal.
Lily Rathbun and
Sailor Henderson combined for six saves in goal with Henderson collecting her first career win.
Shannon Harrington scored a team high six goals to lead Kennesaw State offensively. Goalies Julia Weiss and Erinn Crowe combined for seven saves.
Furman limited the Owls to just four goals throughout the second half after trailing 11-10 at intermission. Roser recorded five of her nine goals after halftime including three of the first four. The Paladins opened the third quarter on a 4-0 run and took a 14-11 lead on Roser's third goal of the half with 5:03 remaining.
Kennesaw State followed with back-to-back goals from Harrington and Caroline Farley to cut Furman's lead to 14-13 at the 2:04 mark of the third period.
The Paladins outscored the Owls 5-2 over the game's final 17:03. Furman collected three straight goals from Roser and Dintino over a stretch of 4:11 to push its advantage to 17-13 less than three minutes into the fourth quarter. Kennesaw State scored back-to-back goals before the Paladins closed out the game with goals from Shaw and Dintino to secure the four-goal victory.
Furman concluded the contest leading 23-20 in ground balls, 23-14 in draws, and forced the Owls into 20 turnovers. The Paladins also connected on four of their six free position attempts.
Furman hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, February 21, traveling to Elon for a 5 p.m. contest.
