LEXINGTON, VA. -- Furman captured five additional titles Sunday to conclude the 2024 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va.
Over the two-day event, the Furman women won every distance event from the 800m to the 5,000m, including the distance medley relay, for just the second time in program history after first accomplishing the feat in 2018.Â
Senior Megan Marvin claimed her fourth-straight title in the women's 800m after crossing the line in 2:08.85, becoming the league's first four-time women's 800m champion. A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., she established the league record of 2:05.68 in 2022. Sophomore Camryn Wennersten took third place at 2:09.02, while junior Callie Harper finished seventh with a personal-best time of 2:16.67.
Senior Abigail Robertson, who took gold in the women's 3,000m on Saturday, won the women's mile with a time of 4:47.56, followed by senior Nicole Matysik in second with a time of 4:49.47. Sophomore Clair Garrett finished sixth at 5:01.58. Â
Junior Sierra Bower registered her first-career SoCon title after leading all runners with a time of 16:26.02 in the women's 5,000m. Bower led three Paladins among the top four racers, including senior Madelynne Cadeau, who placed third with a time of 16:52.70, and senior Nicole Matysik who recorded a personal-best time of 17:03.08 for fourth place. Senior Kylie Wittman turned in a time of 18:11.08 for 12th place. Â
On the men's side, the Paladins took gold in each event from the mile to the 5,000m for the second-straight year. Â
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., senior Cameron Ponder won his fourth-career mile championship Sunday. He captured three-straight mile titles from 2020 through 2022, when he set the league record of 3:59.75 in the event. After missing the 2023 season due to an injury, Ponder returned this year to continue his domination in the event with a time of 4:06.40. Â
The Paladins claimed the top three spots in the event, as junior Gabe Montague finished second with a time of 4:09.57, and freshman Brayden Seymour landed a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman team after placing third at 4:13.48. Sophomore Colton Kempney also scored for Furman in the event, placing seventh at 4:23.50, to receive an all-freshman team citation in his first year of competition for indoor track.
Senior Dylan Schubert successfully defended his 5,000m championship after setting the SoCon record of 13:54.58 at last year's meet. He posted a time of 14:05.60 for the victory, followed by sophomore Luke Taylor in second with a personal-best time of 14:18.74. The Paladins swept the podium in the event, with junior Nick Goldstein taking third with a time of 14:22.08. Junior Casey Burr PRed in fifth place at 14:51.65. Owen Shifflett earned his second SoCon All-Freshman team citation of the weekend, placing sixth with a time of 14:56.42, and freshman Tucker Wright finished 11th at 15:49.71.Â

Samford won both the women's and men's meets for the fifth-consecutive year. The Bulldogs totalled 160.5 points on the women's side, followed by Wofford in second with 117 points. The Paladin women, who placed third with 92 points, recorded their highest finish since 2020, when Furman also placed third. On the men's side, Samford scored 188 points, followed by Western Carolina with 121.5 points for second place. Furman finished third with 112 points, marking the Paladins highest finish since also placing third in 2021.
Furman will open the 2024 outdoor track and field season March 22-23 at High Point's Meet of Champions in High Point, N.C.
