GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Raven Thompson scored 11 points and combined it with a game high 14 rebounds to power Chattanooga past Furman, 60-53, in Southern Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.
The win improves Chattanooga, the league regular season champion, to 24-4 overall and 12-1 in SoCon play.
Furman falls to 14-15 overall and 4-9 in league action.
The Mocs used a strong first half to grab the advantage it would never relinquish, hitting on 5-of-9 3-pointers over the game's first 20 minutes to take a 33-21 halftime lead.
The Paladins trailed 46-30 with under five minutes to go in the third quarter before closing the period with an 8-0 run to trim UTC's lead to 46-38.
Furman stayed within striking distance in the fourth quarter, slicing Chattanooga's edge to five points on three occasions, the latest following a pair of
Kate Johnson free throws with 52 seconds to go.
Jada Session converted the second of two free throws with 20 second remaining to pull Furman to within 57-53, but Chattanooga answered with free throws to secure the win.
Johnson led all scorers with 16 points, and Session followed with 15 points.
Jada Guinn tallied 12 points, and Addie Porter contributed 11 to join Thompson in double figures.
Chattanooga finished the contest shooting 44.4 percent from the field (20x45).
The Mocs outscored the Paladins 18-0 from 3-point range, connecting on 6-of-17 treys while Furman went 0-for-10 from beyond the arc.
Furman shot 36.4 percent from the field (18x51).
The Paladins wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they play host to East Tennessee State in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.
