Furman Drops Road Contest At Oregon, 17-8

Harman Scores First Hat Trick Of Season

Eugene, Ore. – Morgan McCarthy scored a game high six goals to lead the Oregon Ducks to a 17-8 victory over the Furman Paladins in non-conference women's lacrosse action, Sunday afternoon at Papé Field.

Furman falls to 1-5 on the season while Oregon improves to 6-1 overall.

Paige Harman netted her first hat trick of the season to lead the Paladin offense, scoring a season high three goals while adding two draws and one ground ball. Anna Roser provided two goals, and Sophia Buzelis totaled two points on a goal and assist. Buzelis also led the team with three draws along with Hannah Dintino. Katelyn Sousa caused a team best two turnovers. In goal, Lily Rathbun recorded a season high 10 saves and had a team best three ground balls.

Furman got goals from both Harman and Roser over the final 1:29 of the first half to cut its lead down to 8-5 at halftime. After the Ducks responded with a pair of goals to start the second half, Sophie Shaw trimmed the Paladins' deficit back down to three, 10-7, at the 5:31 mark of the third quarter with her first goal of the contest.

Oregon responded with a 6-0 run that covered just over seven minutes to extend its lead out to 16-7 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. The Ducks posted four of its goals to close out the third quarter before McCarthy, who scored four of her six goals in the second half, made it 14-7 heading to the fourth. McCarthy's final goal of the afternoon secured Oregon's nine-goal win.

Buzelis and Roser combined for Furman's opening two goals of the game with Roser getting it to within 3-2 with 5:39 left in the opening quarter. Harman later made it 5-3 less than three minutes into the second quarter before the Ducks answered with the next three goals to lead 8-3.

McCarthy led Oregon with her six goals to go with nine draws, three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Riley Taylor added four goals. Goalie Thayer Hubbard registered five saves and four ground balls.

The Paladins forced the Ducks into 17 turnovers for the contest while finishing with 14 ground balls and 12 draws.
