11th-Ranked Florida Tops Furman On Tuesday

Paladins Host Wofford In Big South Opener On March 27

Gainesville, Fla. – The Furman women's lacrosse team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon falling 23-7 to the 11th-ranked Florida Gators at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.

Furman drops to 2-7 on the season while Florida improves to 8-2 overall.

The Gators scored 13 straight goals to build a 14-1 lead over the Paladins early in the second quarter. Anna Roser tied the game for Furman, 1-1, at the 14:21 mark of the opening quarter before Florida reeled off a 13-0 run capped by Sarah Falk's goal less than three minutes into the second. Following Sophie Shaw's goal just over two minutes later, the Gators scored the last two for a 16-2 lead at halftime.

The Paladins netted five goals in the second half from Hannah Dintino and Paige Harman twice, and Sophia Buzelis. Harman recorded Furman's first and last goal of the second half while Dintino added one each in the third and fourth quarters. Buzelis scored off an assist from Reynolds Hester with 10:25 to go in the third quarter.

Dintino, who also had a team high three draws along with Shaw, paced the Paladins offensively with three points on two goals and an assist, while Harman tied for the team-lead with two goals. Roser contributed two points on a goal and assist. Defensively, Katelyn Sousa and Abby Shearer both caused a turnover. In goal, Lily Rathbun and Sailor Henderson combined for six saves and three ground balls.

Paisley Eagan finished with a game high five points to lead Florida on four goals and an assist. Ashley Gonzalez added three goals and Danielle Pavinelli led all players with four assists. In goal, Georgia Hoey and Elyse Finnelle teamed up for five saves and one ground ball.

Furman, who forced the Gators into 12 turnovers for the contest, finished with nine ground balls and nine draws.

The Paladins are off until Wednesday, March 27 when they open Big South play hosting Wofford at 6 p.m. from Paladin Stadium. Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats.
