GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman swept Chattanooga, 7-0, Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins (9-10, 5-0 SoCon) won all three doubles matches to clinch a close doubles point. Juniors Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder defeated Caroline Gibbens and Emma Peeler, 6-4, at flight two, then both remaining matches went to tiebreakers. The Paladins claimed both matches, 7-6(5), as freshman Macy Hitchcock and junior Ellie Schulson held off Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall at flight one, and junior Grace Thomas and Freshman Maeve Thornton beat Madlena Orlova and Emma Pedretti at number three. Â
Furman swept the six singles matches, winning four in straight sets. Snyder recorded a 7-5, 6-3 advantage over Dohnalova in the top-seeded contest, and Thornton came from behind to defeat Orlova, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5), at flight two. At number three, Schulson posted a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) victory versus Gibbens, while Thomas made quick work of Peeler, 6-1, 6-1, at number four. Hitchcock topped Hall, 6-2, 6-3, at flight five, and junior Marissa Pennings entered the Paladin lineup at flight six, where she beat Pedretti, 6-3, 6-1.Â
The Mocs drop to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in league play with the loss.
Furman will travel to Mercer Tuesday for a 2Â p.m. contest in Macon, Ga.
