ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Ayanna Khalfani scored 16 points to lead a balanced UNC Greensboro attack, and the Spartans combined it with solid defense to defeat Furman, 64-44, in Ingles Southern Conference Tournament quarterfinal round action Thursday evening at Harrah's Cherokee Center.

With the victory UNCG (20-10), the tournament's No. 2 seed, advances into Friday's semfinals to face the winner of Thursday's Samford/Wofford quarterfinal round matchup.

Furman (15-16), the No. 7 seed, completes its season under first-year head coach Pierre Curtis.

Limited to only seven second quarter points and trailing 31-24 at intermission, Furman's offensive struggles continued in the third period as the Paladins connected on just 3-of-14 shots in the frame. UNCG, meanwhile, put down 7-of-17 field goal attempts in the third quarter and finished off the periodwith a 7-2 spurt to take a 46-33 lead.

Tate Walters' two free throws with 6:45 to go cut UNCG's lead to 50-39, but the Paladins could not shave it to single digits the rest of the way.

Walters led all scorers with 18 points, but the redshirt junior guard was the only Paladin to tally double figures.

Khalfani was joined in double figures by Jayde Gamble and Antoinette Emma-Nnopu with 15 points apiece and Isys Grady with 15.

UNCG shot 42.9 percent from the field, connecting on 27-of-63 field goal attempts, and limited Furman to just 16-of-57 shooting (28.1%).

The Spartans fashioned a 46-39 edge in rebounding, getting a team high 10 caroms from Emma-Nnopu.

Jada Session paced Furman with 10 rebounds.
