JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Furman scored four singles points to cruise past North Florida, 4-2, Thursday at the UNF Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Ospreys (5-6) won the top two doubles matches to claim the opening point. Amy Kaplan and Alisa Lyshko defeated junior Sara Snyder and freshman Maeve Thornton, 6-3, at number one, and Kendall Nash teamed with Anslee Long to top junior Ellie Schulson and freshman Macy Hitchcock, 6-2, at flight two. In the unfinished flight three contest, Sofia Snitko and Jasmin Makela led juniors Jess Dawson and Grace Thomas, 4-3.
In singles action, Thornton quickly blew past Snitko, 6-1, 6-1, at flight two to put the Paladins (3-9) on the board, then Hitchcock bested Long, 6-1, 6-2, at flight five to increase the advantage to 2-1. Kaplan tied the match at 2-all with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Snyder at number one, before Furman sealed the victory with wins at flights three and four. Schulson posted a 6-2, 7-5, victory over Nash at flight three, then Thomas secured the match by holding off Lyshko, 6-3, 7-6(5), at number four. Â
The flight six match was unfinished, with Pennings leading Makela, 6-4, 4-1.
Furman will entertain Wake Forest Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
