Trio Leads Furman To 16-9 Win At Winthrop

Dintino Breaks Program Goal Record In Victory

Rock Hill, S.C. – Furman's Hannah Dintino became the school's all-time leading goal scorer on Saturday after combining with Anna Roser and Sophie Shaw to lift the Furman women's lacrosse team to a 16-9 Big South Conference victory over the Winthrop Eagles at Eagle Field.

Furman, who has now won five straight in the series over Winthrop, improves to 6-8 overall and 4-1 in the Big South. Winthrop drops to 1-12 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.

The trio of Roser, Dintino, and Shaw combined for 13 of the Paladins' 16 goals on the afternoon led by Roser's game high five. Dintino and Shaw both scored four while Shaw added an assist. Paige Harman provided four points on two goals and two assists and Reynolds Hester totaled a goal and assist. Sophia Buzelis also dished out an assist to go with five draws. Six different players caused a turnover. In goal, Lily Rathbun recorded nine saves and six ground balls.

Katie Witmer, Claire Witmer, and Ellie Dutton all compiled three points to lead the Eagles offensively. Katie Witmer scored a hat trick while Dutton added two goals and an assist. Claire Witmer led the team with two assists and had one goal. Goalie Emma Calhoun finished with nine saves, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.

Furman scored nine consecutive goals spanning three periods after falling behind 5-4 midway through the second quarter. The Paladins opened the game on a 3-1 run before Winthrop answered with four of the next five to go ahead 5-4 at the 6:07 mark of the second quarter. Furman closed out the half netting three straight from Roser, Hester, and Shaw to lead 7-5 at halftime.

The Paladins broke the game open in the third quarter after scoring all four goals to extend their lead to 11-5. Dintino and Harman combined for all four Furman goals. After Dintino scored less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Shaw's goal ended the run with 13:53 to go in the contest to give the Paladins a 14-6 lead.

The Eagles came back with three consecutive goals over a stretch of less than three minutes before Furman closed out the final minute with back-to-back goals from Roser. Roser's final goal of the day sealed the 16-9 triumph.

The Paladins finished the afternoon forcing Winthrop into 18 turnovers and posted 25 ground balls and 11 draws.

Furman plays its final road game of the season on Wednesday, April 16 traveling to Longwood for a 6 p.m. opening draw against the Lancers.
