Greenville, S.C. – Furman volleyball head coach
Michelle Young has announced the additions of six newcomers that will be joining the Paladins for the upcoming 2024 season.
The 2024 newcomers consist of Rebekah Buchholz, Hayley Dionis, Tennyson Gorman, Quinn Morrissey, Ashley Stein, and Campbell Woods. The six student-athletes hail from the states of Connecticut, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
"We are very excited about this big class of talented young ladies we have coming in this fall," Young said. "We add depth at every position which will raise the level of competition daily in our gym. We have a great bunch of families that are excited about Furman Volleyball. We look forward to getting them on campus and seeing the immediate impact they make on our 2024 season."
Buchholz is a 6-1 middle blocker from Lancaster, Kentucky, where she played for head coach William Bird at West Jessamine High School. She won over 50 matches during her junior and senior seasons while advancing to the Sweet Sixteen and Final Four of the state tournaments. Buchholz was also part of back-to-back region and district championship teams. As a junior, she was a second team all-region selection and earned 12
th region all-tournament team honors. Buchholz then added first team all-region accolades during her senior season and was part of the 12
th region and 46
th district all-tournament teams.
She is the daughter of Jason and Kathryn Buchholz.
Dionis is a 5-4 libero/defensive specialist from Greenwich, Connecticut, where she attends Greenwich High School. Having played for head coach Marianna Linnehan, Dionis is a four-year letterwinner and voted a team captain as a senior. This past season, she received the Val Dickinson Memorial Volleyball Award which recognizes exemplifying leadership, sportsmanship, coachability, and a passion for volleyball. Dionis was part of a state championship team during her sophomore season after Greenwich went 26-1 and ranked 188
th nationally by MaxPreps. Greenwich won 17 games or more in 2022 and 2023 while advancing to the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class LL State Tournament. As a junior, Dionis earned the Coaches Award and was named to the JVA Watch List.
She is the daughter of Keith and Shannon Dionis.
Gorman is a 6-3 middle blocker from Franklin, Tennessee, and currently attends Fred J. Page High School. Playing for head coach Rick Hess, she was a four-year starter and logged 100 career service aces while winning 16 or more games in three straight seasons. Gorman was a three-time first team all-district selection and played on a Division AAA District 12 championship team as a sophomore. She also garnered all-Midstate accolades during her senior season. This past season, Gorman ranked 15
th or better for the state of Tennessee in hitting, blocks, and blocks per set. She was 10
th or better in the state as a junior in hitting, blocks, and blocks per set, while leading the district in hitting and blocks. In 2021, Gorman was in the top-25 for the state in hitting and blocks.
She is the daughter of Jeff and Elizabeth Gorman.
Morrissey is a 5-11 setter from Tampa, Florida, where she played for head coach Sarah Reiss at H.B. Plant High School. She won two state championships during her sophomore and senior seasons at H.B. Plant. Morrissey also played on three district and two region championship teams throughout her prep career.
She is the daughter of Matthew and Kimberly Morrissey.
Stein is a 6-1 outside hitter from nearby Easley, South Carolina, where she played for head coach Amy Godfrey at Wren High School. A two-time state champion in 2022 and 2023, she recorded nearly 1,000 kills throughout her career while adding 516 digs, 159 blocks, and 31 service aces. This past season, she was a North/South All-Star and all-state selection while helping Wren to a region and state championship. Stein also won a region and state championship during her junior season while earning all-region and all-area accolades. She was named Wren's offensive player of the year. Wren captured a region championship in Stein's sophomore season and finished runner-up in the state championship. Stein was named the team's offensive player of the year that season and was an all-region selection. She has twice been tabbed to the JVA Watch List and was placed on the AVCA Phenom List in 2021.
She is the daughter of James and Lynnette Stein.
Woods is a 6-2 opposite from Glen Allen, Virginia, where she attends Hanover High School. She played for head coach Justin Rastberger and combined to go 51-15 over three seasons. This past season, Hanover went 22-4, won a region championship, and advanced to the state championship. Woods was a first team all-state, all-region, and all-metro selection as a senior after finishing with 203 digs, 127 kills, 98 blocks, and 72 service aces. She garnered first team all-region and all-metro, as well as second team all-state, honors during her junior season and was voted offensive MVP. Woods tallied 221 kills and 158 digs as a junior to go with 52 blocks. She also lettered in tennis.
