Greenville, S.C. – Three different Panthers totaled four points apiece Saturday afternoon as High Point topped the Furman women's lacrosse team on Senior Day, 13-10, in Big South action at Paladin Stadium.
Furman drops to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the Big South. With the win, High Point improves to 10-5 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
The Paladins honored their 2024 senior class prior to opening draw on Saturday. The seniors included
Hannah Dintino,
Lily Rathbun,
Sophie Shaw,
Katelyn Sousa, and
Caroline Swaim.
Anna Roser paced the Furman offense with a game high five points on four goals and one assist.
Paige Harman contributed four points on three assists and one goal while winning two draws along with
Sophia Buzelis. Buzelis was one of three players to compile three points with Dintino and
Reynolds Hester.
Grace Gibson caused a team high five turnovers which ties her for second-most in a game in program history. In goal, Rathbun provided six ground balls and five saves.
Shannon Smith, Allie Connally, and Esprit Cha all recorded four points for the Panthers. Cha scored a team best four goals and Connally dished out two assists. Goalies Joy Coffey and Ava Welsh combined for five saves and five ground balls.
High Point scored the game's opening four goals and seven of the first eight to lead 7-1 with less than five minutes remaining before halftime. The Paladins responded by closing out the second quarter with three consecutive goals from Buzelis, Roser, and Dintino to trail 7-4 at halftime.
The Panthers outscored Furman 4-2 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 11-6 heading to the fourth. The Paladins held High Point scoreless for a stretch of almost 13 minutes as they scored twice to start the final period and cut their deficit to 11-8 at the 6:46 mark on Shaw's only goal of the day. The teams traded two goals apiece to close out the contest with Furman scoring twice from Harman and Hester in the last 44 seconds.
The Paladins forced the Panthers into 19 turnovers throughout the contest and finished with 16 ground balls and eight draws.
