GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Anna Morgan was voted the Southern Conference Women's Golf Player of the Year for the third-consecutive season, and Paladin freshman Audrey Ryu also earned postseason honors, as announced today by the league office.
Morgan and Ryu were both named to the All-SoCon team, while Ryu also claimed a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman team. The teams are selected by a combination of rankings and a vote of the league's nine head coaches.
Morgan is the Paladins' 20th SoCon Player of the Year and the seventh since Furman head coach Jeff Hull joined the program. The Paladins have won the award in five of the last six years it has been given.
A senior from Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan, who was named to the all-conference team for the fourth-consecutive season, is the highest ranked player in the SoCon, coming in at 14th in the latest Scoreboard by clippd rankings. A two-time SoCon Female Athlete of the Year selection, she holds a 69.6 stroke average over 30 rounds this season, the lowest single-season stroke average in the history of the Paladin program.
Morgan, who competed in her third-straight Augusta National Women's Amateur earlier this month, won her second-consecutive SoCon individual championship last week in Hilton Head to earn an individual bid to the NCAA regionals. The victory marked the eighth individual win of her career and the fourth during the 2023-24 season, both Paladin records. She has recorded seven top-5 finishes in 10 events this season, including victories at the Lady Paladin Invitational, the Landfall Tradition, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, and the SoCon Championship.
Ryu, who hails from Dublin, Ohio, is the third-ranked player in the SoCon and is second for the Paladins and third in the league with a 72.70 stroke average over 30 rounds, the lowest stroke average by a Furman freshman in the history of the program. She posted six top-20 finishes in 10 events, including a fourth-place finish of 5-under at the Clemson Invitational in March. Ryu tied for ninth at the Evie Odom Invitational in October and shot 5-under at the Cougar Classic in September.
"It is awesome that Anna and Audrey have been selected to the All So-Con team," said Furman head coach Jeff Hull. "This is a tremendous honor for both. I am also very excited that Anna has earned her third-straight Player of the Year award and that Audrey was named to the All Freshman team. Anna has set a very high bar for our young players like Audrey to follow, and she is off to a great start."
