GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman All-Southern Conference tight end
Mason Pline has signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers, it has been confirmed.
The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Fowler, Mich., product started all 13 games and collected second team All-Southern Conference honors for Furman this past season while helping the Paladins to a 10-3 campaign, SoCon championship, FCS playoff appearance. He was credited with 32 receptions for 287 yards and four touchdowns, including a career high nine grabs for 78 yards and a touchdown in the Paladins' quarterfinal round playoff contest versus Montana. Â His leaping 13-yard, fourth down touchdown reception with 13 seconds to go in the fourth quarter helped force the game into overtime.
He earned post-season invitations to both the Hula Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl.
The last Paladin to join San Francisco was defensive back John Keith, a fourth round draft selection in 2000.
Prior to coming to Furman last summer, Pline played basketball and later football at Ferris (Mich.) State University, where he was a member of two national championship gridiron teams and earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
