Greenville, S.C. – Prep standout Mason Smith will join the Furman men's basketball program for the 2024-25 season, it was announced on Monday by Paladin head coach
Bob Richey.
Smith played his senior season of high school basketball for head coach James Long at Davidson Day School. The Huntersville, N.C., native paced Davidson Day to a 24-7 overall record as the Patriots claimed the Foothills Conference championship and North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 2A state championship. He averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, and three assists per game while shooting 40% from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-7 Smith garnered All-Foothills Conference honors and NCISSA 2A All-State accolades.
"We are excited to add a player of Mason's caliber to our program," said Richey, who is entering his eighth season as Furman's head coach. "With Mason, we are adding a high character person with an elite academic background. Mason's ability to shoot the basketball, coupled with his size and athleticism, has us extremely excited about his upside as a player."
Smith, who helped his team to the state title with a 74-64 victory over Greenfield School in the finals, earned all-conference honors as a junior averaging 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Smith connected on 37% of his attempts from three-point range.
