Greenville, S.C. – The Furman softball team closes out its regular season schedule this weekend with a three-game Southern Conference series versus East Tennessee State at Pepsi Stadium.
The threat of inclement weather this weekend forced changes to the schedule, and the series will now begin with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and conclude with a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m. Admission is free for all three games.
This weekend's series will mark the final home games for seniors
Hannah Poole,
Kaitlyn Laudick,
Sierra Tufts,
Ashlee Lykins, Hannah Hashioka,
Ainsley Yoshizumi,
Alex Rose Molinar,
Chloe Fabio, and
Chrissy Fleming. Furman will honor the nine seniors on Friday prior to the series opener.
Furman enters the weekend at 21-29 overall and 6-12 in SoCon play after dropping all three games at league-leading Chattanooga this past weekend. ETSU, who is 11-35 overall and 5-13 in the league, dropped two-of-three versus Wofford last weekend before being swept in a doubleheader on Tuesday at Appalachian State.
Both teams enter the final weekend of league play locked into the bottom half of the SoCon standings and will play in a single elimination game at the conference tournament on Wednesday, May 8, in Greensboro, N.C., to earn a spot in the six-team, double-elimination portion of the tournament. The Paladins come into the ETSU series with an opportunity to finish anywhere from fifth to eighth in the league standings.
Entering Friday's series opener, Furman and ETSU have met 59 times on the diamond with the Bucs holding a 33-26 series lead. ETSU won two-of-three in Johnson City, Tenn., in last year's regular season series before eliminating the Paladins from the 2023 SoCon Softball Championship with a 6-4 decision in Chattanooga, Tenn.
