EUGENE, Oregon -- Furman track athletes concluded competition Friday at the at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which were held June 21-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Gabbi Jennings '21 finished fourth in the 3,000m Steeplechase. She recorded a six-second personal best of 9:12.08 in the finals, marking the seventh-best women's Steeplechase time in U.S. history. Jennings, who runs professionally for Adidas/Team Boss, led all competitors with a time of 9:23.88 in the qualifying round. A three-time All-American in the Steeplechase, she placed seventh at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish out her Paladin career.Â
Allie Buchalski '18, who competes professionally for Brooks Beasts and was inducted into the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023, placed sixth in the women's 5,000m with a time of 15:12.87. She posted the fifth-best time in the opening round after crossing the line in 15:24.22. A seven-time All-American while at Furman, Buchalski finished as runner-up in the 5,000m at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships to conclude a storied career as a Paladin. Â
Buchalski went on to take 23rd place with a time of 4:13.22 in the 1,500m semifinals. She advanced through the first round after finishing seventh in her heat at 4:16.46.
In the men's 3,000m Steeplechase, senior Carson Williams finished 16th with a time of 8:29.29, just two seconds off the last qualifying time. A two-time All-American in the event, he qualified individually for the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships then posted a 3:55 mile during the indoor season. Â
The top three finishers in each event who achieved the Olympic standard for their event qualified for the Olympics in Paris, which are scheduled for July 26-August 11.
