GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head men's golf coach Matt Davidson announced today the hiring of Charles Collings as the team's assistant coach.
"Charles is a young coach who already has significant experience and a very bright future," said Davidson. "We are lucky to have him joining our staff. He is a great fit for our program and Furman University as a whole and will help us tremendously on and off the course."
Collings served as the head men's and women's golf coach at Shorter during the 2023-24 season. Under his direction, the Hawk men won the 2024 Battle at Barnsley in March, and Blake Henriques earned an All-America second team citation. Henriques and Nathan Trodd each garnered GCAA all-region accolades and All-Gulf South Conference honors. Collings, who led the men's team to only the second regional berth in program history, coached the Hawks to a 26th-place ranking in 2024. On the women's side, Shorter recorded a team win at North Greenville's Cherokee Valley Spring Invitational in April, and Taylor Young was honored as a member of the All-GSC team.
Prior to his time at Shorter, Collings worked as a graduate assistant coach at Winthrop and as an instructor at the Chris Haack Bulldog Golf Camp. He also has prior experience as a rules official with the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation.
During a collegiate career that spanned five seasons, Collings spent two seasons at Flagler, two seasons at Shorter, and a graduate season at Winthrop. Over the five years, he competed in 36 tournaments, posting 14 top-25 finishes, including seven top-10 performances. He placed fifth at the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championship, where he helped Flagler to the team title.
"I would like to thank Coach Davidson for the opportunity to join the Furman program," said Collings. "I am very excited to work alongside him to develop the talent of our student-athletes and help grow the success of Furman golf."
Collings, who is from Jacksonville, Fla., earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management from Shorter in 2022. He completed a master's degree in sports and fitness administration from Winthrop in 2024.
