Box Score Columbia, S.C. – Katie Shea Collins netted a hat trick in the first 30 minutes of the match and No. 21 South Carolina scored four times in the first half en route to a 5-1 victory over Furman in non-conference women's soccer action Sunday night at Stone Stadium in Columbia, S.C.
Collins put the Gamecocks in front just 34 seconds into the match before Furman's
Sarah Sexton, a freshman from Fort Mill, S.C., answered with her first collegiate goal at the 19:19 mark. South Carolina regained the advantage less than two minutes later courtesy of Collins' second tally of the evening off an assist from Catherine Barry. The Gamecocks doubled their lead as Barry netted a goal of her own in the 27
th minute and Collins increased the South Carolina cushion to 4-1 just 38 seconds later.
Kylie Cino capped the scoring for South Carolina with a goal in the 83
rd minute off an assist from Emily Chico.
The Gamecocks compiled an 18-4 margin in shot attempts, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Christina Tsaousis and Taylor Fox each played 45 minutes in goal for the Gamecocks.
Reese DeJong came on in the second half in relief of starter
Addison Corn and notched three saves for the Paladins.
Furman (1-1) opens its home schedule on Thursday, August 22, at 6 p.m. versus the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Kickoff at Stone Stadium in Greenville is set for 6 p.m. and the match will be followed by the Furman men's soccer team hosting UNC Wilmington in its regular season opener at 8 p.m.
