Furman Suffers 3-0 Defeat To Clemson In Non-Conference Finale

Paladins Open Conference Schedule Next Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team wrapped up non-conference play on Saturday afternoon dropping a 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 20-25) decision to the Clemson Tigers inside Alley Gymnasium.

Furman falls to 6-5 on the season while Clemson improves to 8-3 overall.

Ava Augustson led the Paladins with eight kills and eight digs while Mary Beth Headley provided seven kills and a team high 13 digs. Emily Navarro dished out 13 assists.

Neea-Maria Joki (16) and Kennedy Wagner (13) combined for 29 kills to pace the Tigers offensively. Devan Taylor led all players with 19 digs. Audrey Armbruster registered a double-double of 38 assists and 11 digs.

Clemson compiled a .316 hitting percentage during the opening set with Joki totaling five of her 16 kills. Furman cut its early deficit down to 7-6 following a kill from Augustson before the Tigers answered with a 14-6 run to break the set open and lead 21-12. The Paladins came back with two straight points before Clemson closed out with four of the last six to win 25-16.

Augustson posted four kills on .471 hitting as Furman jumped out to a seven-point lead to start the second set. The Paladins trailed 4-3 early before outscoring the Tigers 11-3 to hold a 14-7 advantage when Augustson connected on a kill. Clemson then used a 13-3 run of its own to take a 20-17 lead late. Furman got to within two points four times before the Tigers held on for the 25-22 triumph.

The Paladins were limited to just .037 hitting in the third set with Clemson holding an early 9-4 lead. The Tigers were ahead 16-11 midway until Furman used a quick 5-2 run to trail 18-16 on Genevieve Perry's kill. Clemson ended the match on a 7-4 run to claim the 25-20 victory.

The Paladins concluded the match hitting .152 overall and held a 6.0-5.0 advantage in blocks.

Furman steps into the Southern Conference portion of its schedule next weekend, September 27-28, traveling to East Tennessee State and UNC Greensboro.
