Furman vs. Charleston Southern Game Notes
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman kicks off its six-game season home schedule this Saturday when it plays host to Charleston Southern in "FU After Dark — The Trilogy," beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Sponsored by Pepsi, the game will include pre-game ceremonies honoring former Paladin defensive lineman
Bryce Stanfield '24, who passed away on Feb. 9 following a brief illness. Stanfield wore jersey No. 97 — the date of Saturday's contest.
As part of Stanfield's legacy, including celebrating his love of reading to — and spending time with — kids, Furman will conduct its "Bryce's Book Buddies Donation Drive" with the goal of providing picture books and beginning children's chapter books to students who may not otherwise have access to their own. Donation receptacles will be set up at the Champions, Defenders, & Pearce Horton Suite gates of Paladin Stadium.
Furman (0-1) enters the contest ranked 15th/16th in weekly polls conducted by the AFCA and Stats Perform. The Paladins, who boast a 10-game home winning streak and seven-game home run of success against non-conference foes, won both prior meetings with Charleston Southern, including a 46-13 triumph in 2019 in Paladin Stadium and 24-19 verdict in North Carolina during the 2022 season.
Charleston Southern (0-1) dropped a 22-21 home decision to The Citadel last Saturday.
The Paladins' lineup in the season opener against FBS sixth-ranked Ole Miss featured 10 first-time starters among 22-man offensive defensive units that boasted a combined 104 career starts. Furman completed its 10-3, 2023 Southern Conference championship season with a starting unit sporting a combined 541 starts.
The season opener will again showcase exciting experiences for fans heading to Paladin Stadium, including the Furman Fan Zone, presented by Ingles, the Wicked Weed Endzone Experience, and beer & wine sales from the concession stands.
The Furman Fan Zone, located adjacent to the Paladin Statue in front of the stadium, will be open to all fans before the game and include live music from Commodore Fox on the Ingles Concert Stage, food trucks, inflatables, face painting and a balloon artist for the kids. It is an energetic and fun pre-game atmosphere that fans can enjoy for free. The area opens at 3:00 p.m. and closes 30 minutes before the start of the game.
The Wicked Weed Endzone Experience is slated to open 30 minutes prior to kickoff and is available to all fans free of charge. It is accessible from both the west and east stands and will feature food sales, as well as the outdoor brewery experience, while offering fans an up-close view of the on-field action.
Saturday's contest will be streamed via ESPN+, and aired over flagship The Fan Upstate and its four powerhouse stations: 97.7 FM/1330 AM in Greenville, and 97.1 FM/950 AM in Spartanburg. Broadcasts can be secured via Audacy.com, as well as through FurmanPaladins.com.
