LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Bellarmine Knights blanked the Furman men's tennis team, 4-0, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Furman drops to 1-2 on the season while Bellarmine improves to 1-2 overall.
The Knights jumped out to the early 1-0 lead over the Paladins after capturing two out of three completed doubles matches. Eli Wood and Brent Reynolds, playing at No. 3, started the contest with a 6-1 win over
Nicolas Dispas and
Nico Snyder. In the No. 2 match, the duo of Louie Fletcher and Vineet Ramesh secured the point after topping
Cole Burnam and
Connor Laymon, 6-2.
Furman's No. 1 doubles tandem of
Matt Kandel and
Elijah Poritzky were trailing Jack Batchelor and Matthew Nice, 5-4, when Bellarmine won the doubles point.
The Knights followed by taking all three completed singles matches to claim the 4-0 triumph. Batchelor earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Poritzky at No. 1, and Nice followed with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 versus
Theophile Joly. Ramesh ended the contest after defeating Kandel in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, playing at No. 2.
John Rado, playing at No. 4, was tied with Wood, 1-1, when the match was won by Bellarmine.
The Paladins begin Southern Conference play, as well as end their season-opening four-match road trip, on February 8 traveling to The Citadel.
