Furman Set For Two SoCon Home Matches Versus Mercer, The Citadel

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team welcomes the Mercer Bears and The Citadel Bulldogs to Alley Gymnasium this week for a pair of Southern Conference matches.

The Paladins get things started Thursday hosting Mercer at 6 p.m., then follows on Friday entertaining The Citadel at 6 p.m.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. Both matches are being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+. Updates will be posted on the Furman volleyball Twitter page (@FurmanVB).

Admission to all Paladin home matches this season is free of charge with first-come, first-serve seating.

Furman (11-3, 2-0 SoCon) is riding a four-match winning streak after opening its SoCon slate last week with a pair of wins over UNC Greensboro and Samford. The Paladins are off to their second 2-0 start to begin conference play in the past three seasons after defeating UNC Greensboro on the road, 3-1, and then swept Samford in three sets at Alley Gymnasium.

Furman had four players log double digit kills in the UNCG victory led by Lauren Haynes' season high 13. Ashley Stein and Lindsay Walch both finished with 11 kills while Tennyson Gorman, who was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, contributed 10. Emily Navarro turned in her team leading sixth double-double of the season on 21 assists and 10 digs. Kennedy Seekford led all players with 16 digs. The Paladins concluded the contest hitting .262 overall and led 58-43 in kills and 48-41 in assists. Furman also finished with 11 blocks.

In the three-set sweep of Samford, Stein recorded 12 kills and Haynes contributed her first double-double of the year with 11 kills and a season best 14 digs. Navarro and Quinn Morrissey combined for 34 digs. Defensively, Hayley Dionis posted a career high 12 digs. The Paladins compiled a .262 hitting percentage while leading 43-37 in kills and 38-37 in assists. For the ninth time this season, Furman totaled double digit blocks at 10.

Mercer currently sits at 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the SoCon while The Citadel is 0-12 on the year and 0-2 versus league opponents. The Paladins own a 22-15 lead in the all-time series with the Bears and 42-10 against the Bulldogs.

Furman returns to the road next weekend, October 10-11, traveling to East Tennessee State and Wofford.
