GREENVILLE, S.C. – Chattanooga's Gracie Rose had a match high 18 kills Friday evening as the Furman volleyball team rallied from two sets down before falling to the Mocs, 3-2 (21-25, 13-25, 25-20, 25-13, 14-16), in Southern Conference action from Alley Gymnasium.
Furman drops to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in the SoCon. With the win, Chattanooga improves to 11-8 on the year and 5-2 in conference play.
Lindsay Walch led three Paladins in double figures with 17 kills on .325 hitting.
Ashley Stein poured in her third double-double of the season on 13 kills and a career best 18 digs.
Kacie Moore contributed a career best 11 kills on .786 hitting and five assisted blocks along with
Tennyson Gorman.
Emily Navarro posted her team leading ninth double-double on 29 assists and 15 digs.
Kennedy Seekford added a team high 18 digs.
Rose hit .244 to lead the Mocs with her 18 kills while Jordin Glass had 11. Sydney Jackwin (12 kills, 16 digs) and Ashley Reynolds (24 assists, 20 digs) both collected double-doubles.
Chattanooga claimed the first two sets and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Furman bounced back in the third with a 25-20 triumph. The Paladins compiled a .389 hitting percentage in the third frame led by Walch's five kills on .400 hitting. Navarro dished out nine assists and was one of three players that had four digs. The score was tied a total of six times with the last coming at 18-18 on a Mocs kill. Furman would then go on a 6-2 run to lead 23-19 on
Izzy Castelloe's kill. Moore and Stein clinched the set with their combination block.
The Paladins sent the match into a fifth, and deciding, set following a 25-13 win in the fourth. Furman hit .237 while limiting Chattanooga to -.028 and seven kills on 36 attempts. Three different Paladins registered three kills, Navarro compiled seven assists, and
Ashtan Dodson tallied six digs. Furman scored seven of the first eight points and built a 15-5 lead when Moore and Stein teamed up for another block. Seekford's service ace would later put the Paladins in front 21-9. Castelloe secured the victory with her kill.
Walch recorded four kills in the fifth set with Furman being held to just .143 hitting. Navarro had five assists and four digs. Holding a 5-3 lead early in the set, the Paladins would go on a 6-1 run and take an 11-4 advantage after a Mocs attack error. Chattanooga responded to tie the score at 12-12 to cap an 8-1 run. Furman sent the set into extra points when Walch's kill made the score 14-14. The Mocs picked up the final two points to claim the match victory.
The Paladins concluded the contest hitting .186 and led 63-59 in kills and 60-51 in assists. For the 12
th time this season, Furman posted double digit blocks with 10.0.
