It's Furman-Citadel Week!

Paladins, Bulldogs Meet For 105th Time This Saturday In SoCon's Oldest Rivalry, Furman Homecoming

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- It's Furman-Citadel week, and that means the Paladins and Bulldogs are preparing to square off this Saturday at Paladin Stadium in a 2:00 p.m. Homecoming Weekend contest that will represent the 105th renewal of the Southern Conference's most contested football rivalry.

Furman (4-3, 2-2 SoCon) owns a 64-37-3 record against The Citadel (3-4, 2-2 SoCon) in a series that began in 1913 and has been contested every year since 1919, with the exception of a three-year period (1943-45) during World War II.

The Paladins enter Saturday's contest having won the last four clashes with the Bulldogs, including a 17-16 verdict last year in Charleston.  Furman is 36-15 all-time versus The Citadel in Greenville and 15-6 in Paladin Stadium.

The game, sponsored by Bon Secours, will be live streamed via ESPN+ and aired over Furman flagship The Fan Upstate and its four powerhouse stations: 97.7 FM/1330 AM in Greenville, and 97.1 FM/950 AM in Spartanburg.  Broadcasts can be secured via Audacy.com, as well as through FurmanPaladins.com.

Fans can also follow the action through Furman-powered StatBroadcast live stats, accessible via FurmanPaladins.com, and receive timely updates through the @FurmanPaladins "X" platform.

Head coach Clay Hendrix's Paladin squad will look to rebound from road losses suffered over the last two weeks — the latest being a 31-13 setback to Wofford last Saturday.

A return to the victory column will require better work in possession control, as the Paladins have suffered a combined eight turnovers in the last two games, including six interceptions and two "pick-sixes."  The expected return of true freshman wide receiver Evan James (32 rec., 379 yds., 2 TDs) should help after he missed the last four games due to injury.

After struggling against Western Carolina two weeks ago, Furman's defense turned in a much better performance versus Wofford, limiting the Terriers to just two first downs and 60 total yards in the second half.  The Paladin stop troops continue to be led by redshirt sophomore Joshua Stoneking — the FCS national leader in tackles for-loss (16.5) and sacks (10.5).

The Citadel will come to Greenville sporting a potent running game that accounted for 278 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-38 shootout loss to Western Carolina last week in Charleston.

The Bulldogs' two SoCon wins thus far this season include impressive road triumphs over Samford (40-13) and Chattanooga (28-10).
