GREENVILLE, S.C. – Briyah Drayton scored twice in the final 11 minutes Sunday afternoon to propel to Furman women's soccer team to a 6-2 victory over The Citadel Bulldogs in the regular season finale on Seagraves Field at Eugene Stone III Soccer Stadium.
Furman improves to 9-3-5 overall and 3-2-4 in the SoCon. With the loss, The Citadel drops to 5-8-3 on the season and 2-5-2 in conference play.
The Paladins led by a goal for nearly 20 minutes in the second half before Alice Williamson tied the score at 2-2 in the 68
th minute with her unassisted goal. Furman then reeled off four goals over a seven-minute stretch highlighted by Drayton's two in the 80
th and 87
th minutes. Drayton netted her first goal of the match off assists from
Katelyn Nixon and
Bri Pinasco, and Nixon followed in the 83
rd minute with Pinasco picking up her second assist.
Maddie Massie extended the Paladins' lead in the 85
th minute with
Emma Sexton picking up the assist. Drayton sealed the victory from
Callah Dando.
Charlotte Seay gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into intermission with her goal in the 42
nd minute. Furman jumped out quickly to start the second half with
Caroline Moseley tying the score off
Jenny Jacobson's assist in the 47
th minute.

Reese DeJong registered two saves while Zoe Santos turned in five for The Citadel.
Furman held a 16-9 advantage in shots and 11-4 in attempts on net. The Paladins took all five corner kicks in the contest.
Furman is the fifth seed in next week's SoCon Women's Soccer Championship and will face fourth-seeded Chattanooga in the quarterfinals on Friday, October 31 at 8 p.m. EST from Samford's Shauna Yelton Field.
