Greenville, S.C. – Furman's
Norah Roller,
Maddie Massie, and
Ellie Herrmann were selected to the All-Southern Conference Second Team while
Jessica Mattson was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Squad, it was announced on Thursday by the league office.
Roller, a native of Birmingham, Ala., has experienced a breakout season in 2025 scoring six goals and adding two assists in 17 matches. The forward netted both goals in a 2-0 victory over VMI en route to earning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Paladins posted a 3-0-2 record when Roller found the back of the net during the regular season.
Also a Birmingham, Ala., native, Massie has led the Paladins with seven goals and added two assists. The junior midfielder scored the match-winning goal in a September 26 win at Western Carolina, netted two goals in a rout of Presbyterian, and provided the equalizer on a second-half header at Chattanooga earlier this month. The Paladins went 6-0-2 in matches that Massie registered either a goal or an assist.
Herrmann, who successfully made the move from fullback to centerback this season, led the Paladins with five assists and helped the Paladin defense notch five shutouts while starting all 17 matches. The Charlotte, N.C., product totaled two assists versus USC Upstate and provided crucial assists in a 2-2 draw against SoCon regular season champion Samford and at Chattanooga.
Mattson, a holding midfielder, has registered 16 starts and played in all 17 matches so far during her rookie season. The Waxhaw, N.C., native assisted on Massie's goal in a 1-0 victory at Western Carolina and setup game-tying scores in draws versus Samford and ETSU.
The Paladins, who improved to 9-3-5 overall and 3-2-4 in league play with a 6-2 victory over The Citadel in Sunday's regular season finale, open the SoCon Women's Soccer Championship as the No. 5 seed. Furman travels to Birmingham to take on No. 4 seed Chattanooga (10-4-4, 4-2-3 SoCon) in Friday's quarterfinal round with the winner advancing to face the winner of Friday's Samford versus Wofford match in the semifinal round on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
Friday's quarterfinal round matchup marks the 34
th all-time meeting between Furman and Chattanooga with the Paladins sporting a 29-1-3 series lead. The teams settled for a 1-1 draw in the regular season meeting in Chattanooga, Tenn., on October 16 when Massie's header off a Herrmann free kick in the 74
th minute erased an early Mocs' lead and led to a 1-1 draw.
Furman holds s 42-19-3 all-time record in the SoCon Women's Soccer Championship and has captured the league title seven times with the most recent coming in 2021. The Paladins and Mocs have clashed in the postseason just twice with Furman winning semifinal round bouts in 2003 and 2020.
