GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman cornerback
Jordan Miller today was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Paladins' 31-22 SoCon victory over East Tennessee State on Saturday
Miller, a 5-foot-9, 180-pound redshirt freshman, came through with two key plays in game's final minute to help deliver the win.
With the Paladins holding a 25-22 lead and ETSU in possession at the Furman 37, Miller dove to break up a perfectly thrown ball that landed in the hands of Bucs' wide receiver Karim Page inside the goal line pylon. Â Three plays later, with ETSU at the Furman 26-yard line and 10 seconds on the clock, Miller intercepted a pass at the Furman 5-yard line and raced 95 yards for the touchdown on the game's final play.
The Conyers, Ga., product added four tackles in the contest that marked Furman's third consecutive victory and third comeback triumph of the season. Â In points deficit terms, Furman, which trailed 22-7 in the third quarter, scored 24 unanswered points to post its fifth largest comeback win since 1973.
Miller's 95-yard "pick-six" was the third longest in Furman history and third interception return for a touchdown by the Paladins this season.
Furman (4-1, 2-0 SoCon) plays at Western Carolina this Saturday in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
