Top 25 Clash Between Furman And UNCG Set For Sunday SoCon Championship Match

Kickoff Scheduled For 2 P.M. At Stone Stadium

Greenville, S.C. – No. 5 Furman will host No. 18 UNC Greensboro in a top 25 showdown in Sunday afternoon's Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championship final on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

Sunday's kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and tickets are available for $10 by clicking here. Furman and UNCG students receive free admission with a valid school ID. The championship match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live statistics provided through StatBroadcast. Links for the live stream and live stats are available on the men's soccer schedule page at FurmanPaladins.com.

The No. 1 seed Paladins (13-1-4) enter the championship match riding a seven-match winning streak and 10-match unbeaten run following a 4-2 victory over No. 5 seed Wofford in last Sunday's semifinal round. Diego Hernandez and Gianluca Rizzo gave Furman a 2-0 lead at the break before defender Braden Dunham netted a pair of second-half goals to seal the victory. The No. 3 seed Spartans, 12-3-4 on the season, advanced to the finals with a 2-0 victory at No. 2 seed Mercer last Sunday.

Furman is in search of its 16th SoCon Tournament title and fifth in the last 12 seasons. Hernandez, the SoCon Player of the Year, leads the Paladins with nine goals and eight assists. Sophomore Wilfer Bustamante has totaled seven goals and six assists while Dunham, the SoCon Freshman of the Year, has contributed six goals. Redshirt-freshman Ivan Horvat, the SoCon Goalkeeper of the Year, comes into the league finals with a 0.77 goals against average and five clean sheets.

UNCG is seeking its eighth league tournament crown and first since 2022. The Spartans hold a 23-20-5 lead in the all-time series between the schools, but Furman claimed a 2-0 decision on goals from Lloyd Wamu Snell and Caleb Johnson in the regular season meeting on October 25 after advancing past UNCG on penalty kicks in the SoCon semifinals a year ago.

Sunday's winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament while the loser will hope to hear its named called as an at-large selection. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is set for 1 p.m. on Monday and will be streamed on NCAA.com.
