Campbell Downs Furman, 68-61

With Decisive Second Quarter Run

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Jasmine Felton poured in a game high 24 points and Campbell used a decisive second quarter run to take control en route to a 68-61 victory over Furman in women's basketball play Sunday evening at Timmons Arena.

Felton, a sophomore guard, connected on 8-of-11 field goal attempts, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and drained all five free throw attempts in keying the Camels (3-2) to the win.

Olivia Tucker was the only teammate to join Felton in double figures with 12 points.

Trailing 21-15 after one quarter, the Camels saw Furman (2-3) go up 25-17 on Alyssa Ervin's fast break layup two minutes into the second period before reeling off an 18-1 run to take command.  Three-pointers by Haleigh Dill and Tucker sparked Campbell's run that Felton capped with a jumper that gave the Camels a 35-26 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the first half.

Campbell extended its advantage in the third quarter to as many as 21 points on another Felton 3-pointer for a 59-38 lead with 2:31 remaining.

Furman closed the period with a 10-0 run to trim the deficit to 59-48 but never seriously threatened in the final frame.

The Paladins placed three players in double figures, led by Clare Coyle's 15 points.  Chantelle Stuart and Alyssa Ervin chipped in 11 points apiece.

Furman out-shot Campbell from the field, hitting on 47.8 percent of its shots ( 22-of-46) to the Camels' 42.6 percent (23-of-54), but Campbell outscored the Paladins 21-12 from beyond the arc, connecting on 7-of-14 attempts  while also posting a 25-9 scoring differential on Furman's 21 turnovers.

The Paladins suffered through a miserable night at the free throw line, converting only 13-of-29 chances (44.8%).
