Furman's Stoneking Makes Walter Camp Foundation Player Of The Year Watch List

Paladin Defensive End Owns FCS-Best 20 Tackles For Loss, 13.5 Sacks

Joshua Stoneking
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman defensive end Joshua Stoneking is among 15 players named to the Walter Camp Foundation 2025 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Player of the Year Watch List, it was announced today.

Stoneking, a 6-foot-3, 264-pound redshirt sophomore, currently tops the FCS in tackles for loss (20) and sacks (13.5) — a position he has maintained for eight consecutive weeks.  Furman (6-6, 4-4 SoCon) plays its season finale this Saturday against Clemson.

The Raleigh, N.C., product has been named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, with his top performance coming in 28-24 road victory over Campbell when he tallied six tackles, including 4.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks, and a force fumble.  His 13.5 sacks this season are the fifth most season takedowns in program history.

The watch list includes five running backs, four quarterbacks, three wide receivers and three defensive players.

The Walter Camp FCS Player of the Year, presented by Crabtree Lexus of New Haven, will be determined in mid-December. It is the third year the Walter Camp Foundation has presented the award.

About Walter Camp
Considered the "Father of American Football," Walter Camp introduced the play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side in 1880. Nine years later, Mr. Camp, then the Yale University head coach, selected the first-ever college football All-America team. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team. The Foundation is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). Founded in 1997, the NCFAA includes college football's most prestigious awards and its 25 awards have honored more than 950 recipients dating back to 1935.
