Paladin Sophomore Tallies Career High 31 Points In Victory

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Clare Coyle scored a career high 31 points to lead a parade of five double figure scorers to a 110-36 victory over Mars Hill in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

The win, the third in the last four outings for Furman, improves the Paladins to 5-6 on the season.

Coyle, a sophomore forward, connected on 12 of 16 shots from the field and went 7 for 8 at the free throw line for her 31 points, which topped her previous high of 22 points recorded in a 90-89 overtime win over Georgia State last month.  The Jacksonville, Fla., product also claimed 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes of action for her third consecutive double-double.

Teammate Alyssa Ervin followed with 22 points — also a career high — on the strength of 5 of 10 shooting from 3-point range.

Rounding out Furman's double figure scoring performance were Lauren Bailey with 12 points and Samaria Taylor and Raina McGowens with 10 points apiece.

Seeing her first action after missing three games due to injury, sophomore guard Chantelle Stuart registered a career high 12 assists.

The Paladins shot 52.2 percent from the field, hitting on 41 of 81 attempts, and went 10 of 26 from 3-point range.

Furman harried Mars Hill into 38 turnovers leading to a 52-11 differential on points off miscues.

The Paladins return to action on Friday with a 6:00 p.m. road contest at Charleston Southern.
