Greenville, S.C. – Furman's
Doug Allison will receive a United Soccer Coaches Letter of Commendation at the association's annual convention, it was announced this week.
Each year at the United Soccer Coaches Convention, the association recognizes a select few for their special contributions to the sport and the association's membership. Allison, a member of the United Soccer Coach since 1993, will be honored, along with Arthur "Skip" Roderick and Charles Straw, at the United Soccer Coaches Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 16, in Philadelphia, Pa.
After announcing plans to retire following the 2025 season, Allison guided the Furman program to one of its greatest seasons in school history as the Paladins posted a 16-2-5 record, claimed the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the school's first NCAA Men's College Cup. The SoCon tabbed Allison as the league's coach of the year and he and his staff were named United Soccer Coaches South Region Staff of the Year for the second straight season.
Since 1995, Allison has become the winningest coach in Southern Conference history, leading the Paladins to 12 regular season titles, 11 tournament championships, and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight in 1999, a Sweet Sixteen in 2002, and this season's NCAA College Cup. He has developed 152 All-SoCon players, 30 All-Americans, and mentored future U.S. National Team and MLS athletes, including Ricardo Clark, Clint Dempsey, and Walker Zimmerman. As a player, he set scoring records at the University of South Carolina and was inducted into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
