GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Georgia State Panthers swept all four singles matches Saturday afternoon to defeat the Furman Paladins, 4-1, in non-conference men's tennis action from Mickel Tennis Center.
The Paladins fall to 2-3 on the season while the Panthers improve to 2-5 overall.
Three of the four singles matches went three sets with Georgia State tying the match at 1-1 when Edward Tymes topped
Matt Kandel in the No. 2 match, 6-4, 6-4.
John Rado,
Theophile Joly, and
Elijah Poritzky each sent their match into the third set with the Panthers capturing all three contests. In the No. 4 match, Hugo Nossler defeated Rado, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Aryan Jit Singh won 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 over Joly at No. 3. Baran Soyler clinched the match for Georgia State at No. 1 with his 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-4 victory against Poritzky.
Nicolas Dispas was trailing in his No. 5 match versus Gabriele Datei, 4-6, 1-2, when the Panthers secured the win.
Furman jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after winning both doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3. Dispas and
Nico Snyder collected their second victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph at No. 3 over Soyler and McKane Johnson. Poritzky and Kandel, playing together at No. 1, clinched the point for the Paladins against Nossler and Singh, 7-6(2), to move to 2-0 on the year.
Cole Burnam and
Connor Laymon were leading their No. 2 match versus Datei and Tymes, 6-5, when Furman picked up the point.
