Chattanooga Pulls Away From Furman, 85-72

Paladins Host Mercer On Wednesday Night

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Chattanooga shot over 58% in the second half and outscored Furman 50-34 over the final 20 minutes en route to an 85-72 Southern Conference victory over the Paladins on Saturday afternoon at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
With the loss, Furman dropped to 18-7 overall and 6-6 in league play. Chattanooga improved to 17-8 overall and 9-3 in the SoCon while completing the regular season sweep of the Paladins.
 
Furman connected on 8-of-14 first-half three-point attempts to build a 38-35 halftime lead, but the Mocs used a 10-1 run midway through the second half to grab a 64-54 advantage when Honor Huff scored six straight points and Jack Kostel converted a layup with 10:29 to play. The Paladins got no closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Chattanooga offense hit 5-of-10 three-point tries and 9-of-10 at the line in the second half.
 
Garrison Keeslar led the Mocs with 15 points while Frank Champion and Trey Bonham contributed 14 points apiece. Huff finished with 12 points and Kostel added 10 to give Chattanooga five players in double figures.
 
The Mocs shot 48.5%, went 9-for-19 from long range and 12-of-15 at the foul line. Chattanooga outscored Furman 44-24 in the paint and registered 17 points off 10 Paladin turnovers.
 
Senior PJay Smith Jr. led the Paladins with 22 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. Sophomore Cooper Bowser added 14 points and seven boards.
 
Furman shot 41% but hit on just 4-of-23 second half three-point attempts to finish 12-of-37 from behind the arc.
 
The Paladins are back in action on Wednesday night when they host Mercer at 7 p.m. at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
 
NOTE: Furman's home contest versus UNC Greensboro, scheduled for Saturday, February 15, at Bob Secours Wellness Arena, has been moved to a noon tip-off.
