THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- Furman's Will Morlan (-3) tied for sixth Monday to open the Seminole Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Florida State at the par 70, 6816 yard Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, Ga.
Morlan, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., fired a 68 with a team-high four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12, to lead the Paladins in round one then added paced Furman with a 69 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 17 in round two. He sits seven strokes back of Florida State's Luke Clanton (-10) who led the field with a two-round score of 64-66=130 on Monday.
Senior Trey Diehl (+5) is tied for 46th after two rounds of play. He carded a 71 with three birdies in the morning round then posted a 73 with a birdie on No. 16 in the afternoon. Junior Harris Barth (+7) recorded a 72 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 15 in round one and added a 75 in round two to tie for 62nd.
Freshman David Oliver, IV (+11) posted a team-high four birdies in the first round, carding a 75, then shot a 76 in round two to tie for 76th, while freshman Ludvig Josefsson (+14) is in 80th place after notching an 81 with a birdie on No. 1 in the opening round and rebounding with a 73 and a team-high four birdies in round two
Host Florida State (-16) leads the tournament by two strokes over Troy (-14). North Alabama (-7) is in third place, followed by Augusta (-5) in fourth and Florida Gulf Coast (+1) in fifth. The Paladins (+16) are tied for 11th with Southern Mississippi and Western Kentucky with 18 holes to play.
The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Tuesday. Three teams will finish round two in the morning before the teams will be repaired for the final round.
