Greenville, S.C. – Chattanooga scored eight runs over the first three innings and starter Peja Goold picked up her second win of the weekend to power the Mocs to a 9-0 victory and series sweep of Furman on Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.
Goold, who improved to 16-5 in the circle, gave up just one hit over four shutout innings before Alyssa Lavdis closed out the game with a scoreless fifth inning. In addition to her four scoreless frames, Goold fanned six batters and allowed three walks.
The Mocs (29-11, 8-3 SoCon) managed to score two first-inning runs without the benefit of a hit against Paladin starter
Lily O'Bryan, who issued three walks and uncorked a pair of wild pitches in the inning. After the first four batters in the second inning reached base safely, including a two-run double off the bat of Kailey Snell, senior
Emme Buzhardt entered in relief of O'Bryan. Buzhardt retired the first two batters she faced, but Presley Williamson lined a two-run single to right field to push the margin to 6-0.
Chattanooga's Raven Jones and Lexi Cooley opened the third inning with singles before both scored on a sacrifice fly and an error to up the Mocs' advantage to 8-0.
Williamson finished with three RBI and Snell batted in two runs as Chattanooga scored nine times on just six hits.
O'Bryan (1-6) absorbed the loss after being charged with six runs on two hits and five walks over one-plus innings in the circle.
Caitlin Goldwait went 2-for-3 with a double for the Paladins.
Furman (13-29, 3-9 SoCon) travels to Birmingham, Ala., to open a three-game SoCon series versus Samford on Friday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. EDT and the doubleheader will be streamed live on ESPN+.
