Furman Suffers 5-2 Setback At East Tennessee State

Rado, Snyder Earn Singles Wins Vs. ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – The Furman men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in Southern Conference action Wednesday afternoon from the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.

Furman drops to 6-14 overall and 2-4 in the SoCon. With the win, East Tennessee State improves to 11-6 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

The Buccaneers captured two of the three doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to claim the point. The Paladins got things started at No. 3 when the tandem of Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder registered their team leading 11th win of the year with a 6-3 triumph over Pedro Cressoni and James Sim. ETSU followed at No. 2 when Francisco Lamas and Juan Andres Listo topped Walker Allen and Cole Burnam, 7-5. The No. 1 doubles match went into a tiebreaker with the Buccaneers clinching the point when Peter Kalocsai and Martin Garcia-Ripoll held off Matt Kandel and Elijah Poritzky, 7-6(9).

East Tennessee State went on to record victories in four of the six singles matches at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 to secure the 5-2 victory. Furman picked up wins from Snyder at No. 4 and John Rado at No. 2. Snyder evened the score in his No. 4 match versus Lamas picking up his fifth win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 5 contest, Listo won 6-4, 6-2 over Dispas, and Cressoni tallied a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Allen at No. 3. Kalocsai clinched the match for ETSU at No. 1 with his 6-2, 7-6(7) win versus Kandel. Carlos Gonzales collected a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 over Cole Burnam. Rado closed out the match at No. 2 with his seventh victory this season in three sets against Ripoll, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.

The Paladins wrap up the regular season on Friday afternoon traveling to Spartanburg for a 3:30 p.m. first serve against Wofford at Reeves Tennis Center.
