MACON, GA. – Mandy Brockamp and Shannon Smith both scored four goals on Friday evening to lead the second-seeded High Point Panthers to an 18-14 victory over the No. 3 seed Furman women's lacrosse team in the semifinals of the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship at Mercer's Five Star Stadium.
High Point improves to 12-5 on the season and advances to the championship game on Sunday afternoon to take on top-seeded Mercer at 12 p.m.
Paige Harman, who became Furman's single-season assist leader on Friday, led the Paladins with six points on two goals and four assists.
Lily Toole provided five points on three goals and two assists while
Marin Hodor scored a career high three goals.
Sofija Buzelis (two goals, one assist), who had a team high seven draws, and
Anna Roser (three goals) both finished with three points.
Andrea Fisher tied her career high of five ground balls and was one of three players to have one caused turnover.
Goalie
Madigan Brewer totaled nine saves.
Brockamp and Smith paced the Panthers with their four goals and three different players recorded one assist. In goal, Ava Welsh provided eight saves and four ground balls.
Furman opened the game on a 3-1 run with Harman putting it ahead by two at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter. High Point ended the quarter on a 4-1 run and then kept the Paladins off the scoreboard in the second. The Panthers outscored Furman 9-0 during the second quarter and held a 14-4 lead at halftime. Both teams netted three goals in the third quarter before the Paladins attempted a late comeback in the fourth. Furman recorded seven of the eight goals in the final quarter including the game's last six over a stretch of 7:33. Hodor's third goal of the contest off Toole's assist with 1:15 remaining put the final score at 18-14.
The Paladins concluded the contest with 29 shots, 15 draws, and 12 ground balls.
Furman wraps up the 2025 campaign with a school record 14 victories and a share of the Big South Regular Season Championship for the first time in program history. The Paladins finished 14-4 overall and went an unbeaten 10-0 at Paladin Stadium.
