Mike Brown Named Furman Director of Sports Medicine

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Mike Brown has been named Furman's new director of sports medicine, it was announced today by Jason Donnelly, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics.

He succeeds Craig Clark, who recently accepted a position at Tulane University.

"Congratulations to Mike Brown on this well deserved promotion,"said Donnelly. "Mike has distinguished himself as a leader within our department based on his hard work, extraordinary care, and expertise in the area of athletics training. He is part of a lineage of exceptional directors of sports medicine and is well respected by our student-athletes, coaches and staff."

"I'm honored to step into the role of director of sports medicine at Furman University," said Brown. "I've greatly enjoyed my time here working with tremendous student-athletes, coaches, and doctors and am looking forward to being part of an amazing team and making a meaningful impact in this next chapter."

Brown, LAT, ATC, has been a member of Furman's sports medicine staff since 2015 after first serving as an athletic training fellow for the 2012-13 school year.

His latest promotion follows a three-year tenure as assistant director of sports medicine, while also serving as head athletic trainer for football, which he assumed in 2022 after serving as staff trainer for eight years.  In addition, he has worked as a trainer for softball.  From 2015-20 he served as the primary athletic trainer for baseball.

Prior to returning to Furman, Brown spent two years at Clemson as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, with primary training duties for men's and women's cross country and track & field teams.

During his first tenure at Furman he was the athletic trainer for baseball and assistant for Paladin football.

Brown began his athletic training career with an internship with the Baltimore Ravens in 2011.

A native of Burtonsville, Md., he graduated from Salisbury University in 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training and secured his master's in human resource development with a concentration in athletic leadership in 2015.
