Furman Names Allison 2024-25 J. Lyles Alley Coach Of The Year

Allison Guided Men's Soccer To SoCon Title, NCAA Second Round In 2024

Greenville, S.C. – Doug Allison, set to enter his 31st and final season as Furman's head men's soccer coach, has been named the school's 2024-25 J. Lyles Alley Coach of the Year, it was announced this week.

Allison and his staff were named the United Soccer Coaches South Region Staff of the Year after guiding the Paladins to a 9-4-6 record, the Southern Conference Tournament crown, and advancing past nationally-ranked North Carolina in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

"Congratulations to Doug Allison on being named the J. Lyles Alley Coach of the Year by his peers," said Jason Donnelly, Furman's vice president for intercollegiate athletics. "This meaningful recognition highlights Doug's significant accomplishments last year among an outstanding group of head coaches. We are proud of Doug and look forward to celebrating his final season as our men's soccer head coach and honoring his legendary career at Furman University."

Since taking the reins of the Furman program in 1995, Allison, the winningest head coach in Southern Conference history, has guided the Paladins to 11 SoCon regular season titles, 10 SoCon Tournament crowns, and 10 NCAA Tournament bids. The Bath, England, native led Furman to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1999 while also advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 2002.

A nine-time SoCon Coach of the Year selection and three-time United Soccer Coaches South Region Coach of the Year, Allison has compiled a 349-173-72 overall record and 137-54-23 league mark in 30 seasons at Furman. His 349 wins rank 11th among active NCAA Division I head coaches.

Lyles Alley '33 served as head men's basketball coach for 20 years at Furman before serving the university as athletic director from 1956 until his retirement in 1975. This year marks the fourth time Allison has earned J. Lyles Alley Coach of the Year honors.

The Paladins report to campus this weekend to begin preparations for the 2025 season and open preseason play on August 9 at High Point. The regular season home opener versus North Greenville is set for Thursday, August 28. Three days later, Furman soccer will honor Paladin legend Clint Dempsey with a jersey retirement ceremony when they host ACC power Duke for a 6 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, August 31, at Stone Stadium.
