GREENVILLE, S.C. – Izzy Castelloe,
Ashley Stein, and
Tennyson Gorman each recorded nine kills on Friday evening as the Furman volleyball team completed its preseason schedule against the Emmanuel Lions at Alley Gymnasium.
The teams played four sets in the exhibition with Furman capturing the first three. The Paladins won the first set 25-16 and followed with a 25-11 win in set two. Furman then captured the third set 25-18 before Emmanuel closed out the exhibition with a 26-24 triumph in the fourth.
The nine kills apiece from Castelloe, a preseason All-SoCon pick, Stein, and Gorman paced the Paladins offensively while 11 different players recorded at least one kill in the contest. Setters
Emily Navarro (16),
Quinn Morrissey (15), and
Eva Wheeler (13) combined for 44 assists with Navarro and Morrissey both compiling seven digs. Stein and
Kennedy Seekford led the team with 11 digs. Furman totaled nine blocks in the exhibition with Castelloe and
Grainne McGrath both finishing with three.
Ellie Jackson posted a double-double of 16 kills and 15 digs to lead the Lions. Isabel Miller also had a double-double on 22 assists and 12 digs.
Fans can also get their first look at the 2025 Furman squad on Saturday evening at its annual Purple-White Scrimmage at 6 p.m. Admission is free with first-come, first-serve seating.
The Paladins open their regular season next weekend when they face West Georgia, Presbyterian, and Georgia State at the GSU Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. Furman is slated to play West Georgia and Presbyterian on August 29, and tournament host Georgia State on August 30.
