GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head football coach Clay Hendrix announced today the election of team captains for the 2025 football season.

Three players, selected by vote of their teammates, were chosen — offensive guard Luke Petit, safety Caleb Williams, and linebacker Raleigh Herbert.

Petit, a 6-foot-3, 293-pound redshirt senior from Akron, Ohio, completed his return to action in 2024 after sustaining a season ending knee injury in the sixth game of the 2023 season.  He earned starts in all 11 games last year, including six at left guard, four at center, and one at left tackle, and logged a unit high 735 plays on the way to landing second team All-SoCon honors.  A two-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll pick, he was a recent third team Stats Perform Preseason All-America Team selection.

Williams is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior from Tampa, Fla. and veteran of 34 games and 11 starts.  A year ago he totaled 53 tackles, including 4.5 for-loss, five pass breakups, and two interceptions.

Herbert is 6-foot-2, 226-pound redshirt sophomore from Cumming, Ga., who registered playing time in eight games and made five starts a year ago in his first season of action.  He totaled 30 tackles and was named to the SoCon All-Academic Team and SoCon Academic Honor Roll.

Furman kicks off its 2025 season this Saturday when it plays host to William & Mary in a 2:00 p.m. contest in Paladin Stadium.
