Furman, Gardner-Webb Play To 1-1 Draw In Final Preseason Match

Paladins Host USF In Season Opener On August 14

Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Furman women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Gardner-Webb on Thursday night in its final exhibition match before the start of the 2025 regular season.

After a scoreless first half, Furman opened the scoring just minutes after the restart. Following a foul in the box, midfielder Bri Pinasco stepped to the spot and converted on her penalty kick attempt to give the Paladins a 1-0 advantage.

Gardner-Webb evened the match with only eight minutes left in the match when a cross from the wing was redirected into the net.

"The purpose of an exhibition game is to play multiple people in multiple positions to try to get a feel of where our strengths and weaknesses are," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "We had good possession tonight, created chances, but just need to be ruthless in the box and finish."

Furman opens the 2025 regular season on Thursday, August 14, when it hosts the South Florida Bulls. Kickoff between the Paladins and USF is slated for 7 p.m. at Stone Soccer Stadium and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
