GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman volleyball will make the short trip to Asheville, N.C., this weekend to compete in the Bulldog Invitational hosted by UNC Asheville at the Justice Center.
The Paladins are set for a pair of matches on Friday taking on East Carolina at 2 p.m. and West Georgia at 5 p.m. Furman wraps up tournament play Saturday afternoon facing UNC Asheville at 1 p.m.

The Paladins (2-1) got their season started last weekend winning two out of three at the GSU Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. Furman opened with neutral site wins over West Georgia (3-0) and Presbyterian (3-1) last Friday before dropping a 3-1 decision to tournament host Georgia State on Saturday. The season-opening sweep of West Georgia marked the first time since August 24, 2012 that the Paladins swept their season-opening match since a 3-0 triumph over Middle Tennessee at the Blue Raider Bash in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
In the win over West Georgia,
Izzy Castelloe paced Furman with nine kills on .600 hitting while
Lauren Haynes contributed eight kills and a team high 13 digs.
Lindsay Walch also compiled eight kills.
Emily Navarro dished out 20 assists and
Kennedy Seekford totaled 12 digs.
The Paladins hit .250 as a team and held West Georgia under .100 overall. Furman held a 37-34 advantage in kills, 34-32 in assists, and 48-43 in digs.
Tennyson Gorman had a career high 16 kills in the victory against Presbyterian and hit .517 overall while Castelloe and Haynes both provided eight kills. Navarro tallied her first double-double of the season on 22 assists and 10 digs.
Quinn Morrissey, who compiled a double-double the following day against Georgia State, came off the bench to dish out 20 assists. Seekford, who reached 1,000 career digs in the contest, led all players with 29 and Haynes registered 13.
The Paladins concluded the match hitting .216 as a team and led 54-51 in kills and 46-45 in assists.
East Carolina enters the weekend undefeated at 3-0 while West Georgia and UNC Asheville are both 0-3. Furman owns all-time series leads against East Carolina (10-2), West Georgia (4-0), and UNC Asheville (13-7).
The Paladins are at Alley Gymnasium for the first time next week, September 11-13, hosting Alabama State, North Florida, and Winthrop as part of the Furman Invite.
