Moseley, Pinasco Lead Furman To Road Victory At Davidson, 2-1

Paladins Stretch Unbeaten Run To Six Matches

Davidson, N.C. – Freshman Caroline Moseley and junior Bri Pinasco each netted a goal to help Furman extend its unbeaten run to six consecutive matches with a 2-1 road victory over the Davidson Wildcats Sunday afternoon at Alumni Soccer Stadium.

Furman struck first with just 46 seconds remaining in the first half. Emma Sexton held off a defender to maintain possession in the attacking third before playing the ball wide to Ava King. The Paladins' right back cut inside of a defender on the right wing and curled a cross just inside the penalty spot where Moseley fought off a defender to head her shot into the lower left-hand corner. The goal marked the first career score for the Atlanta, Ga., native.

The Paladins doubled the advantage in the 64th minute on Pinasco's second goal of the campaign. After a Davidson goal kick, Furman won the ball and played it forward to Norah Roller, who had her back to goal. The junior placed a pass in the path of a charging Pinasco who dribbled through the midfield and into the box before unleashing a left-footed strike into the right-hand corner at the 63:25 mark to give the Paladins a 2-0 advantage.

Davidson (3-2-1), who maintained a majority of the possession on the afternoon, upped the pressure in the latter part of the second half and got on the board at the 72:56 mark. Isabella Harry won a battle for the ball on the right wing and lofted a cross top the top of the six-yard box where Sophia Whiddon found space between two Paladin defenders to head a shot past Furman goalkeeper Reese DeJong

The Wildcats continued to press the attack forward in the closing moments, but Furman limited Davidson to only one shot on target over the final 16 minutes.

"It takes a lot of grit and resilience to win on the road and I thought our team showed that today," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "We were missing a few key players up top due to injury and others stepped up to get us a pair of goals against a strong Davidson team. Their play, along with an organized effort from our defense, got the job done."

DeJong finished with five saves to help the Paladins improve to 5-0-1 in their last six matches. Allie Moore and Grace Stair each played 45 minutes in goal for Davidson and combined for five saves.

The Wildcats managed a 12-9 cushion in total shot attempts while the Paladins finished with a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. With the victory, Furman improved to 24-10-3 all-time versus its former Southern Conference rival.

The Paladins (5-1-1) conclude their four-match road swing on Thursday night at UNC Asheville. Kickoff on Greenwood Field in Asheville is set for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
