Greenville, S.C. – Eddrin Bronson matched a career-high with 16 points and Furman's defense held VMI to just 26.9% shooting as the Paladins rolled to a 69-48 victory over the Keydets Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.
The Paladins ended the first half on a 12-5 run to carry a 34-27 lead into the locker room and fashioned a 13-0 run early in the second half to increase it margin to 50-30 when
Charles Johnston capped the spurt with a pair of free throws less than six minutes into the second half. Furman never led by fewer than 15 points the rest of the way as the Paladins secured their 11
th win in the last 13 outings to improve to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in Southern Conference play.
Freshman
Alex Wilkins totaled a team-high 17 points on 7-for-16 shooting while
Eddrin Bronson drained 4-of-7 three-point attempts and scored eight points in each half to net his season-high of 16 points.
Ben Vander Wal finished with 11 points and Johnston grabbed a season-best 15 rebounds to go with a career-best five assists.
The Paladins held VMI to just 6-for-25 shooting inside the three-point line and the Keydets (6-11, 1-3 SoCon) connected on just 9-of-31 attempts beyond the arc. Furman hit just 42.9% of its field goal attempts but recorded 11 triples and posted a 48-32 rebounding edge to help offset 20 turnovers that led to 25 VMI points. The Furman bench outscored the VMI reserves 26-15, led by Bronson's 16 points.
Leading scorer TJ Johnson scored 15 points for the Keydets while Walker Andrews scored 10 points off the bench.
Furman is back on the road Wednesday when it travels to the Pete Hanna Center to face the Samford Bulldogs. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
