TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – The Furman men's tennis team fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 7-0, in non-conference action Sunday afternoon from the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Furman drops to 0-3 on the season while Alabama improves to 1-0 overall.
The Crimson Tide won both completed doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the opening point and take 1-0 lead over the Paladins. The 66
th-ranked duo of Vit Kalina and Matic Kriznik topped
Landon Ecarma and
Evan Duggal in the No. 2 contest, 6-1. Playing at No. 3, Rohan Hazratwala and Gray Voelke defeated
Alex Han and
Finn Pollard, 6-3.
Alabama would then claim all six singles matches to secure the 7-0 victory. Carlos Gimenez Perez won his No. 4 match over Ecarma, 6-1, 6-0, and Kriznik, ranked 27
th nationally, was victorious at No. 2 versus
Theophile Joly, 6-0, 6-2. Kalina followed at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against
Nicolas Dispas. In the No. 6 match, Brendan Loh earned a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Han, and Jacob Olar won 6-3, 6-3 against Barnabas Sift at No. 5.
Nico Snyder sent his No. 1 match versus Andrii Zimnokh into the third set to close out the contest. Zimnokh won the first set, 6-2, when Snyder, a sophomore from San Juan, Puerto Rico, picked up a 7-5 victory in the second. Zimnokh would hold off Snyder in the third set, 10-7, for the win.
Furman is off until January 30-31 when it hosts North Greenville, Presbyterian, and Emmanuel (Ga.) in its first home matches of the season. The Paladins entertain North Greenville on January 30 before hosting both Presbyterian and Emmanuel (Ga.) in a doubleheader on January 31.
