GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman shocked Wake Forest, 4-0, Friday night at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins won the doubles point after capturing victories at flights two and three.  Freshmen Bianca Ceroni and Elle Warren defeated Krystal Blanch and Evie Oxford, 6-3, at flight two, and junior Macy Hitchcock and freshman Molly Robinson topped Sankavi Gownder and Jingyi Li, 6-2, at number three.  The flight one match was unfinished, with the Demon Deacons' Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum leading freshmen Sasha Dimitrov and Lillie Murphy, 4-3.

In singles action, Murphy posted a quick 6-2, 6-2 advantage over Blanch at flight two, then Hitchcock held off Tannenbaum, 6-0, 7-6(7), at number three.  Warren clinched the match for the Paladins by beating Carlton, 7-6(5), 6-3, in the top-seeded contest.  

Matches at flights four and five were unfinished.  Dimitrov split sets at flight four, with Bulger taking the first set, 6-4, then Dimitrov answering with a 6-3 win in the second set.  The duo was knotted at 1-1 in the third set.  Ceroni held a 4-2 lead over Oxford in the first set of number five. 

"This was a gutsy performance from a young, feisty team," said Furman head coach Michelle Dasso following the win.  "The maturity and composure the team showed against a very strong, experienced program is promising.  We will need to stay disciplined and be ready to battle a well coached Davidson program on Tuesday."

Furman (3-1) will entertain Davidson Tuesday at 3 p.m.  The Demon Deacons drop to 1-2 with the loss.
