GREENVILLE, S.C. –
Clare Coyle scored 16 points to lead a parade of seven double figure scorers and Furman to a 106-21 victory over Bob Jones in Saturday women's basketball action at Timmons Arena.
The win, Furman's sixth in its last eight games, improves the Paladins to 8-7 on the season.
The 85-point winning margin was the largest in the program's 51-year history, and Bob Jones' 21 points represented the lowest ever by a Paladin opponent.
Furman's 29 steals tied a school standard established in a 104-57 victory over Monmouth in the opening round of Georgia Tech's Pickette Suites Classic in November of 1989 in Atlanta, Ga.
Coyle converted 8-of-9 field goal attempts for her 16 points in under 12 minutes of action.
Raina McGowens followed with 15 points, which she amended with seven assists, and
Alyssa Ervin tallied 13 points to go along with six steals.
Samaria Taylor scored 12 points and added six steals, and rounding out the double digit effort for the Paladins with 10 points apiece were
Sophia Pearl,
Kyraha Parnell, and
Brooklyn King.
Parnell's eight rebounds tied for game high honors and fronted Furman's work on the glass that produced a 57-23 differential.
Furman forced Bob Jones into 41 turnovers and outscored the Bruins 51-3 off the miscues.
The Paladins finished the contest shooting 58.3 percent (49x84) and limited Bob Jones to just 8-of-46 shooting (17.4%) from the field — another Furman opponent record low.
Furman opens Southern Conference play next Thursday at East Tennessee State in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
