CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Freshman Jazzlyn Garmer finished ninth to lead the Furman women's cross country team to a second-place finish Friday at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
Jazzlyn Garmer posted a time of 17:32.6 to lead the Paladins on the 5K course, and was followed shortly thereafter by freshman Calysta Garmer in 13th place at 17:43.6. Freshman Olivia Ferraro turned in a time of 17:49.1 for 17th place, and junior Joiner Evans finished 32nd with a time of 18:13.0. Junior Delaney Vickers completed Furman's scorers in 43rd place at 18:26.7, and freshman Celia Schulte crossed the line in 18:42.6 for 59th place. Â
Catawba won the meet with 66 points, followed by Furman in second with 86 points. Davidson finished third with 111 points.
On the men's side, freshman Michael Ferguson paced Furman with an 8K time of 24:40.5. Sophomore Ben Winn placed 17th at 24:46.9, and freshman Connor Demmerle posted a time of 25:07.4 for 36th place. Freshman Chappell Martin was 39th at 25:09.0, and senior Luke Taylor placed 115th at 26:17.6
Milligan won the men's meet with 70 points, and Catawba took second with 120 points. Augusta placed third with 131 points, followed by Furman in fourth with 173 points.
The Paladins will compete at the Upstate Invite in Spartanburg, S.C., on Oct. 17.
